The Chops Art Instagram

We have been doing event planning, coordination, and decor for the entire length of our relationship. Even before we met we were both active in design and organizing of events, with Matt even being deeply involved in the design and build of a custom Monster house.

At first we started with small house parties which soon came to be highly anticipated Chop Parties. We did no decor for the early ones. In 2006 we both got involved with the Elysium Midsummer Festival – an electronic music and arts event in San Diego. Matt was the Art Director and 1/4 owner of the festival. Bronwen was in charge of “herding cats” (assigning group camping and parking, and then having that enforced on site). For weeks prior to  Elysium every year our house would become a wonderland of day-glo giant flowers and mushrooms while we built all the props with our small team of helpers. Matt also did the initial branding and website art. Branding cannot be undersold in importance for something like this. The online presence had to appropriately match what was planned for the physical event so that people enjoyed an all-encompassing vibe.

Over the past decade + Chop Parties have become fairly well-known and loved within our social community.  What started as small house parties become fully-immersive and decorated warehouse parties with up to 200 people. Even though we moved from our big warehouse in 2023, we do still coordinate and host parties for other people under the Chop Party banner. 

Elysium was not the only festival we have done deco for. We have also done work for JuJuBeats, 10+ years of The Gathering, and a number of Burning Man camps.
